Garden Maintenance
Seasonal horticultural care that protects the design intent and helps your garden mature beautifully.
Designed to mature
A newly completed garden is only the beginning. Planting settles, trees establish, borders fill out and the character of the garden changes with every season. Refined Garden Aftercare is designed to protect the original design intent while supporting the garden as it matures. Through considered horticultural care and maintenance, seasonal attention and continuity from a team that understands the landscape, we help refined gardens continue to develop beautifully over time.
Signature Aftercare
Aftercare is not simply keeping a garden tidy. It is the ongoing care of a designed landscape. Every visit is shaped around the planting, materials, lawn, structure and seasonal needs of the garden, so the space continues to feel balanced, healthy and considered. This service is best suited to clients who want proactive, knowledgeable care rather than reactive maintenance or one-off garden work.

Horticultural care
Each garden has different needs depending on its planting, scale, exposure, materials and level of maturity. Our aftercare service can be shaped around the landscape and the way it is intended to develop.
Seasonal care for new and maturing planting, including watering guidance, feeding, pruning, monitoring and plant health support.
Considered care for borders, shrubs, perennials and grasses, keeping planting balanced while allowing it to mature naturally.
Regular lawn care to support health, finish and seasonal performance, from mowing and edging to feeding and condition monitoring.
Pruning and shaping carried out with the long-term form, health and design intent of the garden in mind.
Monitoring and adjustment of watering needs, with attention to weather, planting establishment and seasonal conditions.
Thoughtful updates, replacements or additions where planting needs strengthening, refreshing or developing over time.
Through the year
The needs of a garden change throughout the year. Our aftercare approach responds to seasonal growth, weather, plant health and the rhythm of the landscape.
Feeding, pruning, border preparation and early growth support as the garden begins to come back to life.
Plant health monitoring, watering support, border care, lawn finish and seasonal adjustments through peak growth.
Cutting back, planting additions, soil care, bulb planning and preparation for the colder months ahead.
Pruning, structural review, plant protection and planning for the garden’s next phase of growth.
Aftercare leadership
Refined Garden Aftercare is led with an understanding of how designed landscapes establish, mature and change. Clients have continuity from a team that knows the garden, understands the planting and can make informed recommendations as the landscape develops.
“My focus is on protecting the original design intent, supporting planting as it establishes, and ensuring each garden continues to mature with the right seasonal attention.”
Jon Dundon, Aftercare Lead
Designed for the long term
The most refined gardens become better with time. Planting fills out, structure softens and the relationship between the home and landscape becomes more established.
Refined stewardship and cultivation
Our aftercare team looks beyond the immediate visit. We consider how planting is establishing, where the garden may need adjustment, how seasonal conditions are affecting growth and what can be improved before small issues become larger problems. That continuity matters. When a garden has been carefully designed and built, ongoing care should be equally considered.
Client perspectives
The measure of our aftercare is the lasting relationships we build with our clients. We are proud to provide ongoing horticultural stewardship for some of the most refined private gardens across Hertfordshire, Bedfordshire, Cambridgeshire and North London, ensuring each landscape matures exactly as intended.
A selection of our Google reviews
We had our garden done by Refined Landscapes a year ago, and we absolutely love it. The team were brilliant — friendly, hardworking, and you can tell they genuinely love what they do. The garden looks incredible. They also arranged the pergola through a third party, and when the blind went wrong, Phoebe was on it straightaway. She handled the whole thing for us, arranged a replacement, and made it completely stress‑free. Then when we recently needed to replace a garden light due to high winds, again, they fixed it quickly and without any drama. Their aftercare has honestly been just as impressive as the build itself. We’re so grateful for how much care and expertise they put into everything. Would 100% recommend Refined Landscapes to anyone who wants a gorgeous, well‑designed garden with incredible customer service.
Great work and very good customer services Would highly recommend
First rate quality from start to finish. Jacob was able to come up with solutions for different issues and the work was carried out perfectly. His local team Markus and Anton were helpful, hard working and courteous throughout. Although not a big job this was quite involved, needing the levelling and turfing of the lawn which was the original field grass and on a slope, a trench to take an electricity cable underground to the garage, building a wall with two sets of steps part way along, digging out concrete behind the kitchen and replacing with paving slabs and dealing with the issues of drainage. Would highly recommend

Garden aftercare is the ongoing care of a completed garden after design and construction. It can include planting care, pruning, lawn care, watering guidance, plant health monitoring, seasonal adjustments and support to help the garden mature as intended.
Garden maintenance often focuses on routine tasks such as mowing, cutting back and tidying. Garden aftercare is more considered. It looks at the long-term health, structure, planting and design intent of the garden, as well as the seasonal work needed to keep it developing well.
Our aftercare service is primarily designed for our own clients and gardens where we understand the original design and build intent. We may consider selected external gardens where the scale, quality and long-term care requirements are the right fit.
Aftercare can include planting care, pruning, lawn care, border management, seasonal planting, irrigation checks, plant health monitoring, soil improvement, garden detailing and recommendations for future enhancements.
This depends on the size, planting style, maturity and level of finish required. Some gardens need regular seasonal visits, while larger or more complex gardens may require a more structured ongoing care plan.
Yes. New planting needs careful watering, monitoring, pruning, feeding and seasonal attention while it establishes. Aftercare helps protect the investment made in the planting scheme and supports the garden as it matures.
Yes, where appropriate. Through aftercare and maintenance, we can identify planting gaps, tired borders, lawn issues, pruning needs or areas that would benefit from seasonal enhancement. For larger changes, we may recommend a planting design or garden design review.
We primarily provide garden aftercare across Hertfordshire and surrounding counties, with selected gardens considered depending on location, scale and service requirements.
