About Refined Landscapes
A Garden Design & Build Studio with Exacting Standards
Creating refined outdoor spaces through design intelligence, construction quality and long-term care.
The studio
Designed, built and cared for with intention
Refined Landscapes is a premium garden design and build studio based in Hertfordshire, creating considered outdoor spaces for homes across Hertfordshire, Bedfordshire, Cambridgeshire and North London.
Our work brings together landscape designers, project managers, horticulture, construction specialists and aftercare expertise. From first concept to finished garden, every project is shaped around the property, the people who live there and the long-term quality of the landscape.
Origins of Refined
Where the Refined story began
Refined Landscapes has grown from Jacob Berry's belief that outdoor spaces should be built with purpose, discipline and pride in the finished result.
His journey into landscaping shaped the standards that still guide the business today: care in the detail, respect for the craft and a clear commitment to doing things properly.

How design discipline became our standard
The Thinking Behind Refined
For over twenty years, Jacob has been a defining presence in Hertfordshire’s landscape market, building a reputation not only for the beauty of the gardens he creates, but for the robust, considered infrastructure that underpins them. Today, he leads a dedicated team of designers, project managers and build specialists, continually refining the process, materials and detailing that elevate every project as Refined evolves.
“Gardens should actively support physiological and mental wellbeing. My approach to design and leadership is shaped by my own experiences and daily routines, cold plunge, sauna, swimming and meditation, because I believe a consistent routine plays a key role in levelling up and showing up as the best version of ourselves, every day.”
Jacob works at the forefront of wellness-led garden design, creating restorative landscapes that balance natural beauty with calm, intentional planning. Behind the scenes, Refined is run with a systems-led approach that protects quality, communication and consistency from first conversation to final handover. His work has earned recognition including BALI National Landscape Awards and features in The Telegraph and Pro Landscaper magazine.
The People Behind Refined
Meet the Team
Our strength lies in the connection between disciplines. Our design-build team understands that a successful garden depends on both creative vision and practical delivery. Landscape designers shape the spatial layout, atmosphere and material language. Project managers bring structure and communication. Construction specialists deliver the technical build with care and precision. Horticulture and aftercare teams support the living layer of the garden as it establishes and matures.
Our standards
What defines a Refined garden
A Refined garden is not defined by one style. It is defined by the thinking, detail and care behind it. Whether the project is contemporary, traditional, large-scale or more intimate, the same standards guide the way we design, build, plant and care for the landscape.
-
Design with purpose
Every garden begins with an understanding of the home, the setting and the way the space needs to be lived in.
-
Build with precision
Construction quality matters beneath the surface as much as in the final finish, from levels and drainage to materials and detailing.
-
Plant with maturity in mind
Planting is considered as a living part of the design, bringing structure, softness, seasonality and long-term character.
-
Care beyond handover
A garden continues to evolve after completion. Aftercare, our garden maintenance service, helps protect the design intent and supports the landscape as it matures.
Behind the work
From studio thinking to site delivery
Refined projects move between design studio, material selection, site planning, construction, planting and aftercare. The quality of the finished garden depends on how carefully those stages are connected.
Our approach
A clear process for high-value garden projects
High-value garden projects need more than creativity. They need clear briefing, proper planning, cost awareness, technical detail, project management and careful handover. Our process gives each client a structured route from first conversation to finished garden, with the right people involved at the right stage.
Our work
Gardens that show the standard
The clearest expression of who we are is the work itself. Explore completed gardens that show the design thinking, construction quality, planting detail and finish behind the studio.
