The Yorkstone Garden - refined stone terrace and planting by Refined Landscapes

Natural Stone Garden Design The Yorkstone Garden

Hertfordshire 2022

Project Story

Natural stone gives The Yorkstone Garden its lasting character. Yorkstone paving, careful junctions and structured planting create a grounded outdoor space where the refinement is held in proportion, material restraint and the way the garden settles over time.

The challenge, our solution and our approach

The Challenge

The garden needed a stronger sense of permanence and order, with hard landscaping that felt appropriate to the property rather than newly imposed. The brief called for a lasting structure that could support everyday outdoor use, while allowing the planting to soften the stonework and bring the garden into balance over time.

Our Solution

The design uses Yorkstone as the principal visual thread, giving the garden a calm material identity. Terraces, routes and junctions are resolved with careful construction detail, while planting is used to loosen the edges, frame views and give the space seasonal depth. The result is a traditional garden with clear structure and a softer, more lived-in atmosphere.

In Detail

Our Approach

Material-led gardens depend on restraint. In The Yorkstone Garden, the strength of the project comes from allowing a simple palette to do its work quietly: stone for permanence, planting for softness, and careful setting-out for a sense of ease.

If you are considering a project of a similar character, we would welcome the opportunity to discuss how we can help.
